About
Embroidery: Threads of Tradition and Modernity
From an early age, embroidery captured my heart. Guided by my grandmother’s needle, I found solace in this timeless craft. Life’s twists took me away, but my creative spirit persisted. Traditional embroidery revealed my unique voice—a fusion of surface stitches, woven threads, and silk shading. With reverence for the past and a nod to the present, I bridged heritage and innovation. My favorite subjects? The rich tapestry of Portuguese culture, infused with a contemporary twist. Architectural embroidery became my muse, echoing Lisbon’s cobbled streets and Porto’s azure-tiled churches.
Textile Kintsugi: Threads of Resilience
A few years ago, I embarked on a journey both ancient and novel: textile kintsugi. Inspired by the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with gold, I wove delicate threads into shattered porcelain and ceramic pieces. Each stitch became a testament—a celebration of resilience, beauty, and the art of healing.
The fractures transformed into veins of gold, binding fragments together. Imperfections no longer marred the surface; they adorned it. In this delicate dance of threads, I discovered a profound truth: brokenness need not be discarded; it can be transformed into something exquisite.
Join me on this creative voyage—a celebration of threads, colors, and stories stitched together.
Painting: Investigating Abstract Expressionism
My journey in art took a unique path, leading me to the field of abstract expressionism. The canvas, which was traditionally just fabric, began to accommodate paints and brushes. Through strong and subtle strokes, I found a way to communicate that went beyond words. The influence of abstract expressionism led me to experiment with form and color, pushing the boundaries of my creativity and allowing me to express my inner world in a more direct and visceral way.
Abstract feelings spread like color on damp paper, each stroke revealing a part of my inner self. In this colorful sanctuary, hidden truths came to light, breaking free from the constraints of time. This transformation in my work is a testament to the profound impact of abstract expressionism on my artistic journey.
